I’ve Been MIA-Not For Long

I want to start by apologizing for being rather MIA the last couple weeks. With celebrating my 21st birthday and spending quality time with my friends and family, I haven’t had time to post.

Being open and transparent is what I will always strive to do while posting to this site. Having followers who are REAL people who both see my active lifestyle on social media and follow my blog, know how busy my life is. Being a 21 year old with a full time job, a committed relationship and a friend group that Is second to none keeps me busy. That’s the beauty of having a lifestyle-type blog, though. You get to see the real Taylor behind each and every post. The good, the bad and the ugly.

Although my life is busy, I have a special place for this blog and the content that I have built in it.

Passion, gratefulness and pure happiness have all been parts of my life recently. I have grown a passion for waking up everyday with a positive mind and a smile on my face with happiness radiating from my smile.  Its became easy looking at myself in the mirror and seeing myself as a beautiful person with a world full of potential. Its been a long time coming in my healing journey to feel this good and lord, am I grateful.

Christmas Drive 2018

Beacon of Life Christmas Drive

To kick off the Warrior Wing Campaign, we will be participating in the Beacon of Life Christmas Drive. Each year, staff and community members put together 34 Christmas boxes for the shelter residents. This year, the campaign will be collecting new and gently used journals for donation. Each resident will receive a journal with a little Warrior Wing touch as a symbol of their resiliency.

I will be collecting journals through December 7th as donations are needed December 10th. I am willing to pick up donations from donors and will be placing donation boxes at a few different locations around the metro. Monetary donations will be accepted through the copied link.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions on how to get involved in the campaign or for a list of additional items that are requested for donation. The “Contact Me” tab at the top of the site is an easy way to reach out!

Consider donating as these boxes may be the only gift these women will receive. Lets make these women feel special this holiday season.

I am so excited to kick off this exciting campaign project to begin the holiday season.

Warrior Wing Campaign

Beacon of Life

Through 38 years, Beacon of life has developed into one of the most special non profit organizations in the metro. Program participators receive tools in how to become self-sufficient after experiencing homelessness, trauma, substance abuse battles and domestic violence situations. The organization houses 34 women, 85% whom have been involved in the criminal justice system.

Beacon of Life was founded in 1980 by a series of Methodist churches in the Des Moines area and has grown to provide numerous programs to assist survivors into their journey to serendipity. Empowerment for sober living, advocating for positive thinking and employment opportunities are just a few key tools that this program provides its residents.

Our program isn’t just about finding a job or having a place to live — it’s about repairing broken relationships, building new ones, creating boundaries and strengthening the mind, body and spirit. -Beacon of Life

Warrior Wing Campaign

The Warrior Wing Campaign was founded in 2018. After numerous news stories, listening to survivor stores and gaining personal closure in my own healing journey, creating a way to help support local non profit organizations and advocacy groups for survivors along their journey was a no brainer to me.

Empowering survivors to grow the wings they didn’t think they had is a passion of mine. Ive seen the darkest of dark, personally. I know what it feels like to be stuck, unsure of a way to turn. I want this campaign to be a helpful resource for organizations to lean on.

The following goals are foundational ideas that the campaign will be based upon.

In the near future, I will be creating handmade, inspirational goods to stock the wing shop. 40% of my proceeds will go directly into the campaign fund to help a local women’s shelter called Beacon of Life. More information on this organization will be in a later post. . As any campaign would, I will be creating a link in this page to make direct donations to the shelter if you choose to do so.

Words from a survivor herself, a campaign like this would have benefitted me in ways nobody can imagine. It would have given me the opportunity to feel like I had an even bigger support system than I already had, while providing me resources and tools that I didn’t know were available. Each and every interaction with Beacon of Life will be lead by me and my followers through projects and donations funded my this campaign.

This movement is only the beginning of a beautiful resource that will touch the lives of many. Any and all donations, big or small are appreciated. Without the help of campaigns, local support groups and community resource groups, the 1/4 statistic could make an unfortunate jump. We have to do something to keep this number at bay. I ask that you consider making it a priority to be a donor. Monetary donations, gently used women’s clothing items, bed sheets, towels/wash rags and household cleaning items are all great ways to get involved.

As always, Thank you for being a valued part of my life and being the fuel of my passions.
